Game Areas
Not many hunters go away disappointed after visiting the four Huron County state game areas. T he Department of Natural Resources says every type of in-season animal kill is allowed in the gaming fields.
Verona State Game Area
Located six miles east of Bad Axe, south of M-142, this is easily the largest game area in Huron County with 7,200 acres to tempt the hunter. Verona is noted for its large populations of deer and game birds.
Rush Lake State Game Area
Rush Lake is found about two miles northeast of Caseville and is near Sleeper State Park. The area is known mostly for a nice supply of waterfowl, but hunters have also had luck tracking deer in the 2,000 acre plot.
Wild Fowl Bay Area
Made up of several locations along the Saginaw Bay shoreline and islands north of Sebewaing, hunters seldom leave empty-handed, thanks to the amount of waterfowl in the area. This scenic part of the county is 1,800 acres.
Gagetown State Game Area
Although the smallest in the county with 900 acres, hunters have found this area to be abundant with deer and game birds. The site, located in the Gagetown area, is near Maxwell and Bay City-Forestville Roads.
